Are you planning to live and work in Mallorca in the long term? Then there are some bureaucratic steps, including applying for the residencia. That's that coveted little green card that is essential for permanent living in Spain. The process starts with the NIE number (Número de Identidad de Extranjero), which you can get here. Once you have received it, you can apply for the membership number (Número de afiliación) at the Seguridad Social. If you are employed, you present both documents to your employer, who will draw up your contract and register you with social security.
